ahmed-zanna-600x337The Nigerian Senate President, David Mark, has expressed grief over the death of Senator Ahmed Zanna who represented Borno Central in the upper legislative chamber.

Reacting to the demise of Senator Zanna in Abuja on Saturday, Senator Mark said his death was ‘one too many’.

The President of the Senate told reporters that Late Senator Zanna was a gentleman who was very mindful of his legislative assignments and the welfare of his constituents and the nation at large.
He described late Zanna as “a fine parliamentarian who contributed his quota to the success of the 7th Senate”.

According to Senator Mark, Senator Zanna’s death, coming a few days after the demise of Senator Uche Chukwumerije, was a big blow to the Senate and the nation.
Senator Chukwumerije died on April 19. He was a former Information Minister and Senator representing Abia North Senatorial District.

Senator Zanna died yesterday following a pro­tracted illness.
Aged 60, Sen Zannah made his first appearance at the senate after defeat­ing the then incumbent Gov Ali Sheriff in the 2011 National Assembly poll, was re-elected for a second term in the 2015 National Assembly poll.

Born on July 25, 1955, he started a small business after his education and later became a successful entre­preneur. He was reputed to have travelled to Mecca for hajj by road in the early 70s.
His political career be­gan in 1988 and a decade later during the regime of late General Sani Abacha, he aspired to contest for the governorship seat of Borno on the platform of UNCP. He was to later join the then newly established PDP in 1998.

Former President Oluse­gun Obasanjo later ap­pointed him as a board member of the defunct National Electric Power Authority (NEPA).

After the 2007 elections, Zannah was appointed Director, North East, Ru­ral Electrification Agency (RAE). Shortly later, he voluntarily resigned. He survived by two wives and 22 children.
