A Kado Grade 1 Area Court in Abuja on Friday sentenced a 22-year-old
man, Emmanuel John, to six months imprisonment for criminal trespass and
theft.
John, a generator repairer of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to the charges and begged for leniency.
The presiding Judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, however, gave him an option of N10,000 fine.
The judge also said the convict must pay N45,000 to the nominal complainant.
Earlier, while reviewing the facts of the case, the prosecutor, Insp Simon Ibrahim, told the court that the convict was arrested on April 16.
He said the matter was reported by one Ada Sunday of Kpana Village, Jabi, Abuja, to the Utako Police Station, Abuja.
The prosecutor said on that same date, the convict criminally entered the living room of the complainant and stole a television set valued at N45, 000 and ran away to an unknown destination.
Ibrahim said that during police investigation, the convict confessed to the crime.
He also said that the offences contravened Sections 343 and 288 of the Penal Code.(NAN)
