A non-governmental organisation, Femi Fafowora Foundation, has asked inmates serving various jail terms in the Ikoyi Prison to be hopeful and look beyond the walls of the prison.

The President of the group, Mr. Femi Fafowora, said as long as there was life, there was hope of a better future for them.

Fafowora spoke during a medical outreach by his foundation to the inmates on Thursday.

He said, “Be optimistic and hopeful. There is hope for you if you don’t give up or lose heart.”

Fafowora said the foundation was formed in 2013 to win souls for Christ, treat diabetic patients and support small scale businesses.

He said the foundation had already started a programme in Kogi and Lagos states to help prison inmates, and was also in partnership with the UK Diabetes Association.

He said, “Diabetes is a silent killer. People are not aware and are therefore treating it ignorantly. We focus on giving drugs and treatments to diabetic patients for as long as possible.”

He added that prisons were meant for the reformation of the inmates and not their destruction, saying they deserved better treatments.

The foundation conducted diabetes tests on the inmates and prison officers during the programme.
