The managing director and chief executive officer of Capital Oil and Gas Nigeria Limited, Ifeanyi Ubah, has attributed his gesture to release 13 million litres of fuel into the Nigerian market as his own contribution to the economic development of Nigeria.

In an interview monitored by Metronaija on Channels TV this morning, May 26, the former governorship aspirant in Anambra State faulted the decision of his colleagues in the Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria to embark on strike without adequately consulting him as a founding and executive member of the association.

Ubah said: “My concern was more about the welfare of Nigerians and the fact that many people were dying. We had to rescue MTN yesterday if not they would have shut down completely by now. We also had to rescue 13 hospitals because patients were dying.”

He also dismissed suggestions by some people that the action he took was political in order to avoid the new government of Muhammadu Buhari, beaming its searchlight on him.

According to Ubah:”I have no skeleton in my cupboard to hide. I am not afraid of the incoming government because I have not committed any crime. I do not regret my support for President Goodluck Jonathan in the last elections. It is about Nigeria not about any individual.

“I have built a political pressure group, the Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria (TAN) that is bigger in size than many political parties and have a presence in virtually all the nook and crannies of Nigeria.”

Ubah also lamented the lack of support oil marketers receive from the Federal Government as well as the very difficult situations they face to import petroleum products.

He canvassed for the support of the downstream sector by the incoming government while also regretting that, his recommendations to the Ministry of Works regarding the gridlock in the Apapa axis were not given the needed attention.

Ubah said three weeks ago that the president-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, needs the Igbo people to succeed in his new role as Nigeria’s leader.
