There are strong indications that the highest decision making body of All Progressives Congress, its National Executive Committee, will meet on Tuesday to deliberate on the crisis threatening the party’s cohesion.
It was learnt in Abuja on Sunday that a cross-section of the party’s influential figures are pushing for the meeting to provide a platform to deal with the challenge thrown up by the crisis in the National Assembly.
Although there has yet to be an official communication from the party to most members of the 48-member NEC, it was learnt that some elders of the party had advised that that body should meet to deliberate on what a party insider described as “pressing issues” affecting the party.
A leading member of the party, who asked not to be named because he was not authorised to speak on the issue said, “We need to meet because the party is tilting towards the brink and we must stop the slide before it consumes us all.”
When contacted, the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Alhaji Lai Mohammed said, “I have not gotten any invitation to the meeting.”
