PHOTO: Danger Averted As Fuel-laden Tanker Crashes Into Vehicles In Osun

A tragic accident that could have claimed the lives of no fewer than 20 persons was divinely averted yesterday in Osogbo when a fully laden fuel tanker lost control and ram into a Toyota saloon car and two other vehicles.

According to an eyewitness account, the fuel tanker with registration number, Lagos AGL804XX, lost control few meters to a traffic gridlock which forced it to veer off and ran into some parked vehicles by the road side.

Although no fewer than 20 persons escaped death, those involved in the accident came out unhurt while those with minor injuries were taken to the hospital for treatment.

The witness said the tanker dragged a Toyota car with an occupant for about 40 meters and rammed into another vehicle before finally crashing into a commercial mini bus filled with passengers.

He said in the process of avoiding running into the crashed vehicles, two commercial mini buses and another car ran into each other behind the tanker.

When LEADERSHIP Weekend visited the crash scene, the tanker and the Toyota car were still at the scene while a towing vehicle was seen towing away one of the commercial mini buses.

An official of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) who spoke under the condition of anonymity however said no life was lost in the accident.

He corroborated the eye witness account that the break of the fuel tanker failed while on motion and ram into the vehicles involved.

The officer advised commuters to watch out when awaiting vehicles, adding that pedestrians should comply with highway walking rules to avoid accidents from careless drivers.
