The judge, Malam Aminu Sa’ad, who passed the judgment after both Audu and Salisu had pleaded guilty to the one-count charge of disturbance of public peace, said he was ashamed of the two convicts.

Sa'ad said they were supposed to be mothers and as such, should always be calm but they chose to disgrace themselves publicly in a market.

"Now that you have disgraced yourselves publicly and have secured yourselves tickets to jail, what will you tell your husbands and children?

"Besides, do you think you can correct your children when they are fighting? Now they know that you were also arrested for fighting," he wondered.

Sa'ad, however, gave the convicts an option to pay a fine of N5,000 each.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Mr Momoh Ibrahim, told the court that on June 29, the women were arrested at the Deidei Livestock Market for engaging themselves in a physical combat in the marketplace.

Ibrahim said while fighting, they both bit each other on the breast, jaw, neck and ears and had been treated at Salihu Clinic, Deidei.

He said their offence contravened the Penal Code law.
