A housewife, Mrs. Linda Eneje, who went on a mission
to recover the debt a customer owed her husband was almost raped when
the debtor allegedly slammed the door on her and went for her under
skirt.
She raised the alarm and neighbours came to her rescue. The suspected rapist, Atoku Jeff Odiwegwu, 30 was arrested and was later docked before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.
The charge police filed against him in Ikeja court 4 reads in part “That you Atoku Jeff Odimegwu, at about 12.30hours on 30 June, 2015 at 40 Ladejo Street, Ojodu Berger, did by intimidation, tear the under skirt of Mrs. Linda Eneje and attempted to have unlawful carnal knowledge to wit rape and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 260 of the criminal laws II volume 44, law of Lagos State, 2011.
Odimegwu pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The presiding Chief Magistrate, Mr. Tajudeen A Elias, admitted the suspect to bail in the sum of N250, 000 with two sureties in like sum. They must possess tax certificates and the sum of N50,000 deposited in account of the Court Registrar. In addition, one of the sureties must be a recognized community leader.
The case was adjourned till 19 August for mention. But Odimegwu will remain in detention until he could perfect his bail.
It was gathered that the complainant went to ask for a N24,000 debt that Jeff owed her husband when she was locked up.
