Twitter has shut down the verified @FLON account which supposedly
belonged to Aisha Buhari, wife of Nigeria’s President, Muhammodu Buhari.
The handle was opened on behalf of the First Lady by her handlers, and subsequently verified by Twitter only to be disowned by the Presidency during the Zahra Buhari twitter storm.
Twitter’s public attention to the violation of its ethics due to the verification of the handle even before President Muhammadu Buhari was sworn into office.
The controversy that led to the final shutting down of the account happened on Sunday when the Senior Special Assistant to President Buhari on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu issued a statement stating that Aisha Buhari, wife of the Nigerian President was not on Twitter.
Garba Shehu’s disclaimer eventually led to Twitter shutting down the account.
