About 1000 households have been affected by severe rainstorm in Kuta
area of Shiroro local government area of Niger State, with properties
worth N500million also destroyed.
The senator representing Niger East
senatorial district, Senator David Umaru, while inspecting the villages
affected by the storm, called for the urgent intervention of the
National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to provide relief materials
to assist those rendered homeless by the rainstorm.
He
described the incident as a monumental disaster and loss to the people,
while assuring that he would contact relevant authorities for urgent
intervention in alleviating their sufferings occasioned by the rain
storm.
The district head of Kuta,
Alhaji Garba Bangajiya, also a victim of the storm, as his palace was
also affected by the storm, said his people were shocked and devastated
by the disaster.
The royal father
stated that the affected villagers would need assistance in the area of
provision of building materials, clothes, mattresses, food, mats and
blanket.
He lauded the Senator for
associating with them at times of their pain positing that he has truly
shown that he has the welfare and wellbeing of those he is leading at
heart.
Meanwhile Preliminary
assessment of the destruction caused by the storm through the Village
heads showed that property worth N500 million were destroyed and lost to
the rainstorm.
