The Rivers State government said it would give soft loans to market women to drive economic activities in the state.
Deputy Governor of the state, Dr Ipalibo Banigo, told newsmen in Port Harcourt, the state capital, on Thursday that small-scale business operators would also benefit from the loan.
She said the move was aimed to revitalise commerce and industry and reduce sufferings of the masses.
“I assure small-scale business operators that facilities that will make life better for them in the market places – like access roads and soft loans, would be provided.
“Similarly, the state government has laid the foundation for an ultra-modern motor spare parts complex to be fully equipped with necessary facilities to accelerate business transactions in the state,” she said.
Banigo said the current administration was determined to boost commercial activities that would ultimately improve standard of living of the people.
The deputy governor urged traders to keep the markets clean and avoid inflammable products that could cause fire in market places.
