The Boko Haram faction headed by Abubakar Shekau has claimed responsibility for the recent attack of the insurgents in Maiduguri.

Citizens ran helter skelter on Wednesday in the Borno state capital after the insurgents mounted an attack, shooting sporadically. They were engaged by the army and eventually repelled. In the process eleven people died and more were injured.

Speaking on Saturday, Shekau claimed responsibility for the attack and said his kids and grandchildren will continue from where we stopped if he dies.




In a video obtained by Saharareporters on Saturday, the group its attack on Maiduguri, displaying uniforms, shoes, ID cards, arms and ammunition it claims to have seized from the Nigeria military.

Shekau, citing Somalia, Afghanistan, and Syria where Islamist groups have waged longstanding wars, rebuked those who have been claiming that the Islamist group’s war around Lake Chad was over.

“Our kids and grandchildren will continue from where we stopped,” he vowed.
