Iran’s foreign minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, has rejected US
President, Donald Trump’s condolence message for deadly terrorist
attacks in Tehran. Zarif described the condolence message “repugnant”
after the US president suggested the Islamic republic bore some of the
blame.
Mr Trump said he prayed for the victims of Wednesday’s twin attacks in the Iranian capital, which were claimed by Isis and killed at least 17 people. But he added in a White House statement that “states that sponsor terrorism risk falling victim to the evil they promote”.
Mohammad Javad Zarif responded on Twitter, saying: “Repugnant White House statement . . . Iranian people reject such US claims of friendship”.
