Jesus Reveals Why He Rejected Manchester United For Manchester City

Popular football star, Gabriel Jesus, has revealed why he turned down Manchester United to be with Manchester City.

Brazilian striker, Gabriel Jesus revealed that a personal phone call from Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola where he told him that he was ‘important to the future of City’ convinced him to turn down a move to a host of Premier League clubs and move to the Etihad, Metro UK reports.

The football star has been a revelation since arriving in England and he’s banged in eight goals in just 11 league matches so far this season. Jesus was linked with a host of clubs across Europe, with Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Barcelona among the sides believed to be pushing for his signature.

He ultimately completed a move to Manchester City at the start of 2017 and has become one of the most feared strikers in English football, despite only being 20 years old.

While life in the UK is very different to sunny Brazil, Jesus is enjoying his time at Manchester City, but he admitted he could have ended up elsewhere had Guardiola not called him up to convince him to join his project at the Etihad.

‘I will tell you, it’s very different from Brazil. You don’t see much of the sun,’ he wrote in the Players’ Tribune.

‘I had a few offers to go to other clubs, and warmer places, but for me, the decision to come to Manchester City was all about playing under Pep Guardiola.

‘This is my first time coming to a country that is really cold and where I don’t speak the language. It’s a challenge to be understood, and it can be lonely in that sense.

‘However, when Mr. Guardiola called me as I was deciding where to sign, he told me that he was counting on me, and that I would be important to the future of City.

‘That call was really important to me because it showed that he really cared about my future. When you have enough of these conversations, you can tell when someone is being real with you. I could tell Mr. Guardiola was being genuine — and in football, that means a lot.

‘When he said this, I didn’t think twice. My decision was made. It was City.’
